Paralympics athletes get Paris 2024 Games visas

Malawi Paralympics Committee has secured visas for athletes Taonere Banda and Mphatso Saukira to travel to France for the 2024 Paris Games.

In an interview on Wednesday, MPC president James Chiutsi said visa arrangements have been completed.

“We took a proactive step to ensure we complete all the travel arrangements in time. We have done that for the athletes and officials. We will go with the two athletes, coach, team doctor and leader of delegation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chiutsi also said the athletes will camp next month to intensify training.

“We will start training next month, for the two athletes, in their respective districts, but from 15th July the athletes will be in camp at the MPC training centre in Lilongwe. We are grateful to K-2 Transformers who are providing accommodation for the camp. But we are also waiting for funding from Malawi National Council of Sports,” he said.

In an earlier interview K-2 Transformers president Tea Yang Kim pledged to support para sports in the country.

He said: “We are committed to supporting MPC to develop the sport in the country and represent Malawi in international tournaments. This is a long-term commitment.

“Apart from the financial contribution, we will also use our international connections to link MPC with other organisations to get technical support and exposure.”

Malawi National Council of Sports spokesperson Edgar Mtulumbwa has since committed to ensuring that the team gets proper preparations.

“We have had meetings with MPC to ensure the athletes get proper preparations. This is the team that has qualified on merit and not solidarity. We will support them to make sure they represent Malawi well,” he said.
